Combined Filters Neighbors Distance Codes Pick 3 The Neighbors Distance Codes (NB-DSC) is a so called "combined filter", a combination of a digit and a math filter. It requires two separate parts to create the filter.
Neighbors (NB) is yet another alternative to the old VTracs (VTX). Instead of combining digits by adding 5 it selects the all even digits with the next odd digit up, 0 with 1, 2 with 3 all the way to 8 with 9. It is another efficient way to combine an odd with an even digit.
To show you how to calculate the Neighbors Distance Codes filter for a Pick 3 number here an example step by step.
Part I: Pick 3 Neighbors Distance Codes Conversion Step 1: Divide 331 into separate digits: 331 => 3 3 1 Step 2: Convert each digit to filter: 3 = 2 3 = 2 1 = 1 Step 3: Combine the filters to a string: 2 2 1 = 221
Part II: Pick 3 Neighbors Distance Codes Conversion Step 1: Divide the number into separate digits: 221 => 2 2 1 Step 2: Calculate the distance between each digit and the next (the last digit with the first): 2 to 2 => 0 2 to 1 => 1 1 to 2 => 1 Step 3: Convert distances to codes (0=E[qual], 1 & 9 = C[onsecutive], 2-8 = N[one]): 0 => E 1 => C 1 => C Step 4: Combine the filters to a string: E C C = ECC
